SideSwipe Spatula Mixer Blade
Yes, say that three times fast!
From time to time I happen upon or get a new gadget for the kitchen. This time it is the SideSwipe Spatula Mixer Blade attachment. I had read about it on a non-food related message board, and thought ‘Oh! That would be cool to have.’ I received it as a birthday present a few months back, but have really been putting it through the paces as of late.
I thought it would be more of a novelty item but I really like it. There have been a few times in the past where I am not thinking, and try to put a spatula into the mixer – BAD IDEA! (You would think I would learn!) Just recently it beat cold cream cheese, powdered sugar and barely room temperature butter into a silky smooth cream cheese frosting. Normally the frosting would still have lumps it because the cream cheese was cold. For other uses, batters do come together more quickly, and the mixer speed does need to be set a little lower as well (per the website).
This blade almost eliminates the need to use a spatula while making things in the mixer. Still need to scrape down the ingredients that get higher than the blade, and sometimes there is some unmixed batter at the bottom. For those that like to lick the beater, well this blade has extra nooks and crannies that hold just a few more niblets of batter. The blade is also dishwasher safe on the off-chance there is still batter left on the blade.
For $24.95 (depending on your model) this is definitely a nice addition to the kitchen. Plus it gives you another mixing blade for your KitchenAid Stand Mixer! Which means batter and icing in a shorter amount of time, and in your belly quicker!
