Dive Bar & Grille (Wexford, PA)
A few months ago we tried to stop in for dinner at Dive Bar & Grille, but it was closed for a private function. (So we ended up at Billy’s Roadhouse. Finally, we made to Dive Bar & Grille, and it was OH so worth it!
The ambiance is anything but ‘dive’ and has an upscale, but relaxed environment. There were two fireplaces roaring with lots of seating, whether it’s dining for two or for a larger group. Catch your favorite sports game while waiting for your meal or having a drink.
I instantly knew we had to go here soon as I saw ‘fry bowls’ on the menu. I love french fries, and love trying out different ways of having them, especially if there’s cheese. (Still on the hunt for some poutine!) We started our meal with a fry bowl as an appetizer: The OG. The OG consists of fries, chicken poppers smothered in beer cheese, bacon, and onion strings. I thought this would be a really cheesy, greasy, bacony, bowl of fries, but it was anything but. Everything was perfectly fried, light and super crispy. There was just a bit of a white beer cheese on the chicken, and it tasted incredible even without the ranch dressing we got on the side. This really could be a meal by itself.
For dinner, I had the One Armed Fisherman served with Sweet Potato Tots side, and the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich (picked the Hot Garlic Parmesan) and Asian Slaw side. Again, my fish was fried perfectly. Many times you get fried fish and it tastes like a soggy lump of fish and oil, but that was not the case here. The bread was soft and lightly toasted and held the sandwich together well. The homemade tartar sauce was a good accompaniment to the sandwich, but I prefer my sauce to be tangier, but it worked with the sandwich. The sweet potato tots were good, and came with a side of brown sugar/cinnamon butter.
Dave got the buffalo chicken sandwich fried (grilled is an option too). The sandwich had a hint of heat with the hot garlic parmesan sauce. I think next time we will try it with the traditional buffalo flavor. The asian slaw was okay. The cabbage and carrots were lightly dressed with a nice crunch.
Next time you’re in the Wexford area, check out Dive Bar & Grille for lunch, dinner or maybe a weekend brunch. We anxiously await their opening in the Lawrenceville section of Pittsburgh (another one of our favorite places to eat!) I am thinking I need to suggest this for our next MOMS club night out! We can not wait to go back!
